Athene Nocturna

I'm currently a student at UC Berkeley. My greatest ambition is to get through medical school. Taking care of people just seems like second nature. Stress is my spice of choice, it makes me think faster.

Met the founder of famo.us today. He seems like such an interesting person, albeit douchy.

I think he solidified my reason for not wanting to become a founder or deal with VC’s.

His little kernel of knowledge that I’ll definitely keep:

“One who’s easily impressed is definitely not an impressive person himself.”

Oh and can’t forget this one:

“You want to be a founder?” “If so, be morally ready to fire your best friend, co-founder, the moment he doesn’t fit into the vision. There’s no room for “B”-type people even if they pull on your “compassion” strings.”

Wrap - leftover love

So that chicken I made yesterday - perfect in a wrap!

I had a bunch of leftover stuff around, so I figured why not stray away from sandwiches and makes a wrap?

Ingredients:

1 Tortilla

1 Slice cheese (I had colby jack)

Chicken

1/4 avocado

Some greens - had leftover Trader Joe’s Arugula+Endive+Spinach salad.

Here’s what you do: Reheat the chicken (stovetop or microwave is okay). Put your tortilla in a big frying pan and gently head on one side. Flip it over and sprinkle/crush cheese onto the already warm side. Wait for 30 seconds for the other side to soften and just start to crisp up. Take out of the pan and put on a large plate. Now spread the quarter avocado on top of the melted cheese. (I just used a spoon to scoop out the flesh so it looked like guac.) Then, put on the chicken. Cover with your salad of choice. I love the nuttiness that arugula brings and the bitters of the endive are perfectly complemented by the creamy avocado. Wrap the tortilla into a roll. Mine looked kind of like an open ended burrito. Enjoy! :)

Quick Spicy Chicken

I tried this “recipe” today. It literally took me 20 minutes for prep and cook, granted I let it simmer for another 10 minutes covered but with the burner off. Some of the ingredients may seem slightly off but keep in mind my last trip to Ranch 99 was a month ago.

Ingredients:

2 Chicken breasts - washed, patted dry, and cubed

2/3 cup soy sauce - use the full sodium one for this to not have to add more salt later

3 tablespoons vinegar - I wanted to use rice wine but only had balsamic, so that went in.

1 teaspoon red chili paste dealio. I dubbed it the man-woman sauce. Here’s the link to what I use: chili sauce  - want a spicier recipe? Use more of this Chili sauce.

black pepper to taste

1 teaspoon of crushed ginger

1 teaspoon of crushed and roughly chopped garlic

1/4 of a large yellow onion - washed, finely chopped. (I think it ended up being about 1/3 cup)

2 tablespoons sesame seeds - I really wanted to add a dash of sesame oil, but didn’t have any. I’m sure it can’t hurt! + More sesame goodness to garnish!

Chopped scallions, if you have them, for pretty color on the plate.

Mix ALL of the above together and let sit for 5 minutes. Meanwhile go make your rice, noodles, or whatever you eat chicken with. Now heat up some oil (I used olive oil because it HAD to be used up, lesson: never buy costco olive oil if you cook just for yourself). Just a dash of oil, you’re not frying the chicken just sauteeing it. Throw in the chick mixture into the hot pan and stir continuously. After about 7 minutes the chicken should be mostly cooked. Lid the pan, turn of the burner and let the residual heat continue to simmer it. (I think with a gas range, you’ll have to keep the gas on a “warming” setting).

The theme song to this Friday’s episode of Nikita should have been Adele’s Rolling in the Deep.

Rant.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people don’t reply to any messages, especially if I know they are checking their phone. There’s no way you could have posted that mobile Facebook post three hours ago and not have seen the iMessage I sent six hours ago.

I guess it’s a lot harder to lie in the digital age and out of all the people you should know that I’d be the one to catch these nuances.
